Son of  Aubrey Malcolm Lawrence (Snr.) and Martha Elizabeth Parker, who was of Aboriginal descent. Aubrey was the second oldest of six children. His older brother Frank and younger brother Hubert also served, as did two of his 
step-uncles, James and Harry Dickerson.
