Short Stirling MkIV, EF267, X9-C, 299 Sqn.
September 19, 1944, 12.50 take off from RAF airfield Keevel (Whitshire) to drop supplies at Arnheim / Oosterbeek. Operation Market Garden.
The Stirling was hit by FLAK after dropping the supplies.
The pilot Colin Alexander Russell Bayne try to get in safety behind the allied lines at Wijchen but the plane crashed landed at the "Stationslaan" (streetname) next to the mill and castle at Wijchen center.
All crewmembers survived the crash but were taken by the Germans. They al become POW for the last eight months of the war.
The most crewmembers were taken to prison camp Stalag Luft 7 at Bankau.
Walter's POW nr was 869.
