Military Medal
Private William Charles ATTWOOD displayed great bravery and disregard of self near LE BARQUE on the 25th February 1917. When an Officer (Lieut SUTTON) was severely wounded on a patrol which had gone ahead of our line, ATTWOOD remained with him until dark, when under a heavy barrage he succeeded in carrying the Officer back over a trench in possession of the enemy, to where he could get assistance, and brought him back to the dressing station.
