Son of John William Vessey of Scunthorp, Lincolnshire,  England

While living in England Ernest served with the Imperial Lincolnshire Infantry Regiment for almost five years.

Husband of Hilda Mable Annie Vessey nee Hill of Baronia Street, Redfern,NSW. Ernest and Hilda married during 1915c.

Commenced return to Australia on 24 July 1919 from Colombo aboard HT Oxfordshire disembarking on 17 August 1919
