Son of William Henry Upton and Mary Jane Upton nee Cecil of 'Hoe Street, Leyton, London, England.
4 October 1915 - enlisted at Perth, WA, with the 23 Howitzer Brigade and with the rank of Gunner.
15 January 1917 - transferred to the 51st Battalion
Commenced return to Australia on 4 January 1919 aboard HT Morvada disembarking on 12 February 1919
Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
5 April 1919 - discharged at the 5th Military District as medically unfit cellulitis to the foot
