The Grays and Tilbury Gazette of 4th November 1916 reported that Mrs Lighten’s second son had died of wounds She lived at 33 Flint Street West Thurrock. Her son had settled in Australia 9 years previously and left a widow and three children. Commemorated on the West Thurrock War Memorial along with Samuel Lighten also of West Thurrock. Also on the memorial is Private Ernest Edward Suttling of the 18th Bn. Australian Infantry, A.I.F., another local man who emigrated to Australia.
