Elder of the two brothers (Ted and Charles) who served in WWII, Leading Aircraftman Edward James Duffy (Service No:146801) enlisted in the RAAF on 27 January 1944 at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Trainee Technical, re mustered as Electrician. Promoted to Leading Aircraftman in March 1945, LAC Duffy was attached to 94 Squadron at Discharge on 24 October 1945.
Ted was born in Stawell, Victoria in 1911, eldest of two children of James Alipious Duffy (b1881 in Beechworth, Victoria) and Jane Annie Conroy (nee Osler; b1881 in Dooboobetic, Victoria). James (a Farm Labourer) and Jane (a Widow with two small sons) married in Stawell in 1910 and lived in Murtoa and at Fyans Creek via Stawell, where James was a Labourer. James enlisted in the AIF in 1914 (Private; Service No:662), and was KiA at Gallipoli in 1915. Annie later remarried - and raised nine of her own children.
Ted started work as a Grocer's Assistant in Fyans Creek before working as a Truck Driver (Log Hauler) for the Sawmill. Ted married Dorothy May Williamson (b1918 in Ararat, Victoria) in 1939 in Stawell, where they raised their family and Ted was a Fitter/Munitions Worker at the Stawell Ordnance Factory in 1944 when he enlisted in the RAAF. Following his Discharge, Ted and Dorothy settled in Stawell, and Ted was a Labourer and Textile Worker until his death in 1971. Dorothy died the following year.
