Warrant Officer Thomas Martin Anderson (Service No:8925) enlisted in the RAAF on 12 February 1940 in Laverton, Victoria as an Aircraftman I attached to PTC Training Depot Laverton, then 24 Squadron - mustered as Fitter Armourer. Promoted to Corporal by December 1940, WO Anderson served in New Guinea in 1943 with AFHQ Detachment, and was attached to 94 Squadron at Discharge on 15 October 1945.
Tom was born in Stirlingshire, Scotland in 1902, second of three children of Robert Anderson (b1869 in Peebleshire, Scotland) and Christina Martin (b1871 in Inverness-shire, Sccotland). Robert started working as a Shepherd, and in 1896 was a Plumber when he and Christina married in Edinburgh. Robert and Christina settled in Stirlingshire, where they raised their family and Robert worked as a Plumber.
Tom completed Apprenticeship as a Fitter (James Davies & Sons, Stirling Foundry), and immigrated in 1925, arriving in Melbourne on board the Orama. Tom moved to QLD, and worked in Mitchell as a Labourer (1926), and with the Woocoo Shire Council at Brooweena via Tiaro as a Ganger, and Grader and Truck Driver. In 1937 in Mitchell, Tom married Muriel Phyllis Cheer (nee Leadbetter; b1907 in Roma, QLD). Tom and Muriel settled in Maryborough, where Tom was a Motor Mechanic at Denham's Pty Ltd Motor Garage when he enlisted in the RAAF in 1940. Following his Discharge, Tom and Muriel lived in Duaringa via Rockhampton, where Tom was a Truck Driver. In the late 1950s the family settled in Brisbane, where Tom worked as a Fitter. Tom died in 1977 and Muriel in 1990.
