Flight Lieutenant Lamb (Service No:264530) enlisted in the RAAF on 23 February 1942 - mustered as a Trainee Officer. Promoted to Flight Lieutenant by 23 February 1943, he was attached to General Reconnaisance School (GRS),  No 1 Air Observers School (AOS) Cootamundra, No 1 Bombing and Air Gunnery School (BAGS) Evans Head, No 5 Service Flying Training School, No 1 Operational Training Unit (OTU) and 100 Squadron (a bomber and maritime patrol squadron). Flight Lieutenant Lamb was attached to No 6 Squadron at Discharge on 6 March 1945. Flight Lieutenant Lamb was described by the Assessing Officer (100 Squadron; 24 November 1944: NAA) 'He applies himself assiduously on all aspects of his duties and the Squadron's activities. He is keen, energetic and co-operates on all matters, assists co-navigators on any of their problems, and has raised the standards of efficiency of the Squadron's navigation during this tour. In sporting activities he leads the majority and promotes harmony in the quadron'. 

Born in 1909 in Foster Victoria, Milton was second of six children of William Andrew Lamb (b1880 in Geelong, Victoria) and Amy Stella Dolphin (b1879 in Chewton, Victoria). William (a Machinist) and Amy married in 1907 and lived in Foster where William worked as a Carrier before moving to Highton, Geelong in 1914. Following his service in WWI (Private; Service No:6050), William and Amy moved to Barrabool where William was granted land under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act 1919. William and his family settled in Barrabool where William was a Farmer and Labourer before retiring to Geelong.

Milton attended Geelong College - where he played Cricket and Footbal and served in the Junior Cadets - and in the Militia (1928/1929). He was member of the Geelong Footbal Club and 'was part of the legendary back line' in the 1931 Premiership win - 'Lamb is a compact little fellow, who has the happy knack of getting in the right place at the right time, and doing the right thing' (Sporting Globe; 16 Sept 1931) . Milton worked for Geelong City Council (Assistant Enginerr) and was a Sub Manager in Bendigo in 1936 when he married Myrtle Clarice Cheffers (b1911 in Melbourne) - Myrtle was a Secretary in Melbourne. Milton worked as Personnel Manager for G J Coles and Coy, and following his Discharge he and Myrtle lived in Perth during the late 1940s/1950s before returning to Melbourne where they raised their family and Milton was a Manager. Myrtle died in 2005 and Milton in 2006.
