John Arthur Woolhouse was a Pilot during the second world war. He saw service in PNG where he was based at Wards Strip. He bombed Japanese shipping and also Japanese soldiers on the Kokoda Trail. He was promoted to Warrent Officer.two during his army career.
After being discharged from the RAAF in 1946 he moved in with his family on Railway Parade Meltham. This included wife Alice, Daughter Ruby. Son Clarence John. He had several more children during the late forties.
In 1949 John who had been at a hotel with several of his friends was driving home but alas he crashed and rolled his car injuring several of his friends. He decided he would flee from the accident in case of police trouble and walked across the railway lines adjacent to Meltham Railway Station. He was very intoxicated and didn't see the trains coming down the tracks. The first train missed him but the second hit him running over him and obliterating him. He died instantly.
