Leading Aircraftman George Henry Harder (Service No:59271) enlisted in the RAAF at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne on 15 July 1942 as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Flight Rigger, re mustered as Fitter. Promoted to Leading Aircraftman on 1 October 1943, he served in Morotai (12 August 1945 - 8 November 1945) and was attached to 24 Squadron at Discharge on 15 February 1946.

George was born in Melbourne, Victoia in 1919 to George Frederick Harder (b1896 in Melbourne, Victoria) and his second wife Ella Elizabeth Watts Hopper (b1896 in Melbourne, Victoria). George Snr served in WII (Driver; Service No:3345) and worked in Melbourne as a Labourer and Railways and Tramways Employee. In the early 1920s, George Snr and Ella moved to the Gippsland Region - living in Yallourn and Morwell - where George Snr worked for the Tramways as a Motorman until his death in 1934. 

George worked as a  Motor Body Trimmer and was a Welder and Panel Beater with Austin Distrubutors Ltd in Melbourne in 1938 when he married Janet Isabella Carlton (b1920 in Melbourne, Victoria). George and Janet settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and George worked as a Panel Beater and Janet as an Insurance Clerk. Janet died in 1983 and George in 2001.
