The son of Mary Jane Woodman (formerly Johnstone), of 62, Angove St., North Perth, Western Australia, and the late David Johnstone, who died in 1895.
His older brother, 1299 Lce. Cpl. Francis David Johnstone 32nd Battalion AIF, was killed in action at Fromelles, 20 July 1916, aged 33.
