Biography contributed by Cherilyn McMeekin

Dorothy was the youngest daughter of Alexander Bonney and Alice Barnsley. All 3 of her brothers served in WWII, and her father and 2 uncles had also seen active service.

Perhaps this explains Dorothy's keenness - she enlisted just before her 18th birthday. As a sales assistant in civilian life, Dorothy was found suitable to be a storeshand.

She married in 1948 to Raymond Blakeman, who had also served in WWII. They had a stillborn son in 1948. Sadly, Dorothy (Dot) died in early January 1950, aged only 23. The cemetery board states 3 January, while death notices state 4 January.
