George's Family
George was a twin from a large family. There were 13 children in all. The family had lived in Scotland and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) for many years. After returning to Scotland the conditions were not good for their health and so the family came to Australia eventually settling in Nundah, a suburb on the north side of Brisbane.
George's parents lived in Nundah until their death.
George and his twin brother enlisted and both served in France. Two other brothers also enlisted. Looking at their service records, they may have been wild young men.
His twin brother Arthur returned from WW1 but spent the rest of his life until he died aged around 86 in Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, Melbourne suffering from shell shock.
George's sister was my grandmother who was also a twin.
