68 years ago today, on the 3rd November 1954, Sergeant Reginald Albert Huett, 2nd Battalion (Reg No-4625), labourer from Mitchell Street, Merewether, New South Wales and Sunshine or Morisset, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 59. ANGLICAN 3-194. 8.

Born at Merewether, New South Wales on the 14th November 1894 to Edward and Alice Elizabeth Huett; husband of Margaret Elizabeth Huett nee? (married? died 1957, sleeping here), Reginald enlisted September 1915 at Newcastle, N.S.W.
Admitted to hospital 27.7.1917 (not stated), 23.2.1918 (laceration of knee joint, accidental), 22.4.1918 (not stated), 1.5.1918 (not stated).

According to The AIF Project, Reginald was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, 22.9.1918
'The conduct of this N.C.O. during the past six months has been of the highest order. As a linesman he affords a splendid example of courage, having a total disregard of danger and a cheerfulness and devotion to duty beyond all praise. He has on two occasions been recommended for immediate awards.'

Service record gives no indication of this award.
Reginald did not return home until the 2nd February 1920, discharge date unknown.

Mr. Huett’s name has been inscribed on the Merewether (Mitchell Park) Memorial Gates, Newcastle South Public School Roll of Honour - as HUET (unveiled on the 13th December 1918, 218 names originally inscribed, 220 names now inscribed, 36 Fallen, located at the Junction Public School, The Junction, N.S.W. and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall. Name not inscribed on the Merewether St. Augustine's Church Roll of Honour.

I have placed poppies at the gravesite in remembrance of Reginald's service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.

Service record states Died after Discharge, 1/11/1954.

Younger brother Joseph Victor (born 25.5.1897, Merewether, New South Wales, enlisted 30.8.1915 as Victor, 2nd Battalion, Reg No-4624, died 14.5.1968, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 70 - Newcastle Memorial Park Cemetery & Crematorium) also served 1st A.I.F.
