My Dad
Percy or Bill as we know him, was born in Greta NSW on the 16th September 1925, and enlisted in the Air Force as soon as he turned 18 after leaving school. He was stationed in Townsville(Queensland)and then in East Sale RAAF Base until the end of World War 2. He then returned to NSW where he was discharged from the RAAF before returning to Sale, East Gippsland, Victoria where he has lived until this day.
He married Brenda Newnham on the 7th February 1948 and has 3 children, 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Dad often talks about his time in Townsville and flying over to PNG to repair planes enough to get them back to Australia and refit them out before they were sent back to bombing in the Pacific.
In Sale, he recalls VP Day and how the East Sale RAAF Base and then the township of Sale celebrated. It was at a dance later in the evening where he met our mum.
