They settled in Bundaberg, QLD where they raised their family and John worked as a Wharf Labourer and Carpenter.

Walter was a Labourer in Bundaberg, QLD when he married Annie Christena Hansen (born 1910 in Mackay, QLD) in 1929. Walter and Annie lived in Mackay, QLD where Walter was a Wharf Labourer and a Lance Sergeant in the Militia (47 Battalion) between 1933 and 1940.
