Corporal Frederick Marshall Leishman (Service No:410680) enlisted on 31 January 1942 at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne as an Aircraftman II - mustered as Trainee W/T Operator and re mustered as Telegraphist. Promoted to Leading Aircraftman at No 1 Fighter Wing HQ on 8 March 1943, LAC Leishman served in Darwin NT (10 May 1943 - 3 October 1944) with 110 Mobile Fighter Control Unit and 5 Fighter Control Unit. Corporal Leishman was Detached for Duty with Aliied Intelligence Bureau and Overseas (OP) NG TNG in Lae and Madang from 20 November 1944 to 29 September 1945, and was attached to 2 Transport and Movement Office at Discharge on 23 January 1946.

Fred was born in Brighton, Melbourne, Victoria in 1921, only child of Robert Marshall Leishman (b1893 in Northumberland, England) and Jessie Hilda Jeffreson (b1890 in Melbourne, Victoria). Robert (a Baker) and Jessie married in 1920 in Melbourne, where they lived and raised their son until thier Divorce in 1929. Robert had immigrated in 1913, and served in the AIF WWI (Private; Service No:3390) - he worked as a Baker in Melbourne. Jessie was a Guest House Proprietress.

Fred lived with his mother, and on leaving school worked as a Clerk with the Commonwealth Wool and Produce Coy. Following his Discharge from the RAAF, Fred returned to Melbourne and work as a Clerk - he lived with his mother until his marriage in 1959 to Catherine May Cameron (b1911 in Macarthur, Victoria). Fred and Catherine settled in Melbourne, where Fred was a Clerk, Personnel Officer and Manager. Catherine died in 1996 and Fred in 2001.
