Leading AirCraftman Hubert James McMahon (Service No:142712) enlisted in the RAAF at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne as an Aircraftman I - mustered as General Hand - and was promoted to Leading Aircraftman on 17 December 1943. LAC McMahan was attached to 55 Operational Base Unit (OBU), 14 and 3 Mobile Work Squads (MWU), No 2 Squadron and No 1 OTU. LAC McMahan served in New Guinea (15 June 1945 - 12 February 1946) and was attached to 7 Transport and Movement Office at Discharge on 4 March 1946.

Jim was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1921, youngest son of James Joseph McMahon (b1899 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Elsie May Scott (b1899 in Melbourne, Victoria). James (a Boot Clicker) and Elsie married in Melbourne in 1919, following James' discharge from the AIF (Private; Service No:51643), and settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and James worked as a Boot Clicker and Driver.

Jim worked in Melbourne as a Felt Hatter before enlisting in the RAAF in 1943. In 1945 he married Jean Zoe Temple (nee Carnes; b1921 in Hobart, Tasmania) - Jean was a Corporal in the AWAS. Following Discharge in 1946, Jim and Jean settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Jim was a Hatter. Jean died in 1991 and Jim in 2005.
