Eldest of four brothers (Joseph, Leslie and Leonard) who served in WWII, Leading Aircraftman William Arthur Neville (Service No:150110) enlisted in the RAAF on 1 July 1943 at No 3 Recruting Centre Brisbane as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Trainee Technical, re mustered as Driver Motor Transport. LAC Neville served at RAAF Station Rathmines, and was attached to 5 Transport and Movement Office at Discharge on 14 January 1946.
Bill was born in Ballina, New South Wales in 1908, second of nine children of William (Harry) Henry Neville (b1881 at Redbank Plains via Ipswich, QLD) and Sarah Ann Ibbotson (b1887 in Brisbane, QLD). Harry and Sarah married in 1906 in Brisbane, and lived in Ipswich, Jackson via Miles and Brisbane, where they raised their family and Harry was a Saddler.
Bill started work at sixteen years of age as a Messenger, and worked as a Bakery Doughboy and Bread Carter (Neville Bros Bakery). He married Myrtle Pentleton Holt (b1916 in Brisbane, QLD) in 1937 in Brisbane, where they settled and raised their family. Bill was a Truck Driver in 1943 when he enlisted in the RAAF, and following his Discharge, Bill returned to work as a Truck Driver. In 1949 Bill was severely burned (2nd and 3rd degree burns to his face, neck, chest, both arms and hands) when blasting powder exploded at the rubbish dump. Bill died in 1964 and Myrtle in 1991.
