Awarded Military Cross
'Near Mouquet farm on the night of 12th August 1916, he was acting as Battalion bombing Officer. Against heavy odds he led a bomb team forward and drove the Germans from a communication trench which connected the enemy line with ours. Afterwards under heavy fire building a stop which enabled us to put a Lewis Gun forward into a position of great advantage. When our troops on the left of this point were driven back, the position gained by Lieut. Gore saved the flank of the Battalion from being turned.
On the night of 14th August 1916, during the same operations against Mouquet Farm, Lieut. Gore was patrolling the front. He was some considerable distance off of his men when he noticed a German patrol with 2 of our men as prisoners. Without waiting for the party he engaged the hostile patrol with bombs and succeeded in rescuing the men who had been prisoners. Unfortunately one of them was killed during the fight. Although twice previous recommended Lieut. Gore has received no award. During the period 13/20th November 1916, North of Flers when acting as Battalion Intelligence Officer Lt. Gore also did good work in patrolling the Battalion front. Personally taking charge of the patrols on all but one occasion.'
