Sergeant Albert Ray Stephens (Service No:54671) enlisted in the RAAF on 29 April 1942 as an Aircraftman attached to Motor Boat Crew. Described as an 'excellent allround man with plenty of experience' and 'a sound knowledge of navigation' Sergeant Stephens served in Darwin, Rathmines and at RAAF Station Port Moresby. He was attached to 2 Transport and Movement Office when he was Discharged on 5 March 1946.

Born in 1911 in Yarraville Victoria, Bert was the eldest of six children of Albert Denithorn Stephens (b1890 at Tower Hill, Victoria) and Winifred Hope McKay (b1893 in Melbourne, Victoria). Albert Snr (an Assembler) and Winifred married in 1910 in Melbourne, Victoria where they settled and raised their family and Albert was a Painter and Decorator.

Bert worked as a Painter and Decorator in Melbourne and in 1942 enlisted in the RAAF and married Edna Mabel McGill (b1918 in Melbourne, Victoria). Bert and Edna settled in Melbourne where Bert worked as a Painter and Decorator. Edna died in 1982 and Bert in 1993
