HANSON Albert Edward
Albert was the son of Henry William HANSON & Olive Prudence GASTON and was born on the 25th of December 1920 at 54 Collins Street, Kalgoorlie, WA.
He was the youngest child born into the family of 4 children.
His parents were married on the 3rd of August 1909 in Burtville, Mt Margaret, WA.
His mother was the daughter of George GASTON & Ann LAWSON and was born on the 28th of May 1891 in Barossa Diggings, SA.
His father was the son William Henry PRIEST & Mary Ann OBRIEN and was born in February 1870 in Hobart, Tasmania. He was adopted by Henry HANSON & Wilhemina DODDS.
His father was a prospector
From 1931 to March 1937, his parents leased the Railway Refreshment Room in Watheroo.
From here they moved to Gingin and his brother; John Henry, took over the running of the Gingin Hotel until December 1946. (except for when he served in the RAAF)
His older brother; Leonard William, enlisted into the RAAF on the 12th of September 1940 in Perth and was allotted the service number 406178. He was posted to the No. 1 Initial Training School in Somers, Victoria, 3 days later.
Albert’s father died on the 14th of May 1941 when Albert was 20 years old.
His brother Leonard embarked for the UK on the 17th of July 1941 from Sydney.
At the age of 20, Albert enlisted into the RAAF on the 14th of September 1941 in Perth and was allotted the service number 415323.
He trained in the UK.
Whilst in the UK his brother; Leonard William was killed on the 31st of March 1943 in the North Atlantic whilst on 76 Squadron RAF Halifax aircraft R9453 as an air gunner.
Less than 3 months later his eldest brother; John Henry enlisted into the RAAF on the 6th of June 1942 in Perth and was allotted the service number 80865.
In March 1943, Albert trained at an Astro Navigation course at Souris, Manitoba, Canada
Albert’s cousin F/O Bruce Furze GASTON DFC was attached to 86 Squadron RAF flying VLR (Very Long Range) 4 engine Liberator aircraft on Coastal Command anti submarine operations over the Bay of Biscay and the North Atlantic.
Albert caught up with him whilst they were both based in Ireland. There is a picture of them both together.
When Albert returned to Australia he married Dorothy Irene RICHMOND on the 1st of February 1946 in the St Mary’s Church, West Perth.
Dorothy was the daughter of Henry Gilbert RICHMOND & Myra REDDIN and was born on the 14th of May 1921.
In 1954 they lived at 185 Gregory Street, Wembley and Albert was a bank officer.
By 1958 they had moved to Pingelly but by 1963 they had moved back to 185 Gregory Street, Wembley
Dorothy died on the 21st of September 1968, aged 47 and was cremated and interred in the Karrakatta Cemetery; Crematorium Rose Gardens, Garden 6I-0032
Albert died on the 24th of October 1987, aged 66 and was cremated and interred in the Karrakatta Cemetery; Crematorium Rose Gardens, Garden 6I-0032.
