Clarence Roxby
Born on 23 May 1914 in Hamilton in Newcastle, Clarence had lived and worked most of his life in NSW. During his youth, Clarence rose through the Cubs and, Boy Scouts to eventually become a Rover. Clarence was also a champion NSW amateur sprinter, with an education in both bushcraft and outdoor living - highly desirable skills for his future in the TAI. After finishing high school Clarence attended Newcastle technical college to obtain a qualification in engineering. Before joining the RAAF, Clarence was working in the Acme Oil Engine company in West Newcastle as an engineering fitter and welder. Initially enlisting in the RAAF on 17 October 1938 as an airman, he was commissioned as an engineer on 1 June 1942. After several postings he was eventually posted to HQ RAAF Command Brisbane on 13 Sep 1944 and thus would begin his Technical Air intelligence field experience.
At the end of WWII Clarence went back to engineering. When the Korean war started he signed up but his wife Gladys (nee Dunn) kicked up a stink so he did go.
Known as a great bloke, gentleman, down to earth. He did not drink or smoke and loved cars and working on cars.
