Flight Lieutenant Raymond Jackson (Service No:403671) enlisted in the RAAF on 3 February 1941 at No 2 Recruiting Centre Sydney as an Aircraftman II - mustered as Air Crew. Flight Lieutenant Jackson was attached to the RAF, serving in the UK and Middle East from 15 April 1941 to 20 September 1945 (including at Abu Subir, Heliopolis, Almaza and Nicosia), flying Defiant, Hurricane and Spitfire aircraft. Flight Lieutenant Jacson was attached to 259 Wing at Termination of Appointment on 2 November 1945. Older brother Tom served in the AIF in WWII.

Ray was born in Adelong, New South Wales in 1915, youngest of seven children of Arthur George Jackson (b1874 in Craigie, New South Wales) and Lily Dale (b1882 in Brighton, Victoria). Arthur (a Labourer) and Lily (a Housekeeper) married in Gundagai in 1902, and lived there and in Adelong and Tumut before settling in 1930 in Fern Valley in Cardiff via Boolaroo. Arthur worked as a Labourer and Miner.

Ray started work as a Labourer in Cardiff, and was a Gardener in Newcastle in 1940 when he married Ethel Watson (b1917 in Cardiff, New South Wales). Following his Discharge from the RAAF in 1945, Ray and Ethel settled in Cardiff where they raised their family and Ray worked as a Labourer. Ethel died in 2002 and Ray in 2010.
