Ian Ronald McLean (Born with the middle name Robert, which was later changed to Ronald) was born on the 31st of October 1924 in Mackay, QLD, Australia. He was the youngest child of Susanna Jessie Carswell (WAAF) and Pte. John Alexander Angus McLean.
Ian worked for Royal Netherlands Indies Airways (KNILM) and Qantas Airways where he was employed in a number of roles including Flight Engineer Officer, Transportation, John Flynn Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS) and Training Officer.
Ian was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Mavis Beryl Frettingham for 40 years. They had 2 sons and 3 daughters together, whom he loved with all his heart.
Ian was also an avid green thumb and grew hydroponic lettuce and plants which he would sell to fruit shops and nurseries. He made new discoveries and inventions to assist and change the industry of horticulture in Queensland. He also kept Bees and would sell honey to markets and health food shops.
Ian was an outstanding man, extremely personable and was of great character as mentionioned in many documents, and by whomever had the opportunity to meet him. He always wore a smile and could get along with anyone. He was an incredible man, of both class and charm.
