Donald Potts belonged to a family which had a remarkable record of service. His father 3880 Pte. Clarence Henry Potts, 13th Battalion, returned to Australia, 25 August 1917 (overage, enlisted at age 45). His brothers, 709 Sergeant Alexander Henry Potts, 2nd Battalion, served at the Anzac Landing and was returned to Australia, 17 June 1916 with a bullet wound to the left knee. Lieutenant Clarence McIntosh Potts, 13th and 45th Battalions was awarded a Military Cross and returned to Australia, 1 May 1919, then served in WW2 and spent 3 years in Changi as a prisoner of the Japanese. Hector Potts, Submarine Branch, Royal Australian Navy, enlisted 1917 aged 16 and served in the Royal Australian Navy until 1943.
