68 years ago today, on the 7th February 1957, Private Francis Claude Christopherson, referred to as Claude, 17th Battalion (Reg No-59015), horse driver and telephone linesman from 73 Charles Street, Cooks Hill, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 58. METHODIST 4-15. 29.

Born at Wolfe Street, Newcastle, New South Wales on the 16th April 1898 to Richard, died 27.3.1929, North Sydney, N.S.W., age 66, unmarked grave?, no funeral or death notice located, and Mary Agnes Christopherson nee Martin, died 5.10.1914, Newcastle Hospital, N.S.W., age 47, married 1921, Newcastle, N.S.W., died 18.9.1973, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 75, sleeping here, Claude enlisted on the 26th October 1916 as an Able Bodied Driver with the Royal Australian Naval Bridging Train, 20th Reinforcements, Reg No-549, at the Naval Depot, Rushcutters Bay, Sydney, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board RMS Karmala on the 6th February 1917.

Commenced return to Australia 29.5.1917. Unit demobilised.

Claude arrived home about July? 1917, being discharged on the 24th July 1917.

Re-enlisted 22.5.1918 with the New South Wales, 11th General Service Reinforcements at Newcastle, N.S.W.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A30 Borda on the 17th July 1918.

Commenced return to Australia 22.7.1919.

Claude arrived home on the 5th September 1919, being discharged on the 20th September 1919.

Younger brother John Baden Powell, referred to as Baden and Chris, born 18.5.1900 Cooks Hill, New South Wales, carter and omnibus driver from 73 Charles Street, Cooks Hill, New South Wales and 20 Reay Street, Hamilton, N.S.W., enlisted 7.3.1917, stated age to be 18 years and 9 months, actual age 16 years 9 months, 36th Battalion, Reg No-3169, RTA 21.3.1918 (underage), died 31.3.1953, age 52, father of two, Baden F and Eleanor, resting at ANGLICAN 3-189. 12, no headstone, wooden cross erected - 31.10.2015. I submitted an application to DVA July 2021 asking for a Commonwealth War Graves Plaque, curbing and marble chip, and this was accepted September 2021, completed February 2023, officially commemorated – https://connect.dva.gov.au/.../viewCommemoration.html....
