Thomas CROOKS, (Service Number 3043) was born on 6 January 1891 at Joadja Creek. He first worked for the NSW Tramways as a conductor in Sydney in May 1913. He was still working in this role when he was released from duty to join the Expeditionary Forces on 17 August 1915.

Thomas CROOKS (Service Number 3043) was born on 6th January 1891 at Joadja Creek NSW. He first worked for the NSW Tramways as a conductor in Sydney in May 1913. He was still working in this role when he was released from duty to join the Expeditionary Forces on 17th August 1915.

He left Australia from Sydney on board HMAT ‘Suevic’ on 23rd December 1915. He was allotted to the 17th Battalion, but soon transferred to the 55th. He underwent further training in Egypt before embarking via Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force in France. He reached Marseilles on 29th June 1916. On 12th October he was received a gunshot wound to his abdomen, a fractured left leg and a gunshot wound to his right foot. He died of those wounds on 13th October 1916 at the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station.

He is buried in Estaires Communal Cemetery, Nord Pas de Calais, France.
