Prior to coming to Australia Robert had served for four years with the Royal Field Artillery, Lancashire, England.
Address at the time of enlistment was given as Baillis Street, North Melbourne, Victoria.
Robert had previously enlisted in Oaklands, SA during 1914 but was discharged after a short time as being unsuitable.
Son of Mary Ann Gregory of Primrose Bank, Lancashire, England.
On 2 April 1917 Robert married Mary Hodgkinson in the Parish Church, Blackburn, Lancashire, England. Vicar Gordon Coe officiated.
Commenced return to Australia on 16 March 1919 aboard HT Czaritza then transhipped to HT Dunluce Castle at Alexandria disembarking on 13 May 1919 in Adelaide
