Son of Henry COBB and Ellen COBB nee RYAN, 95 Fyans Street, Chilwell, Geelong, Victoria

Husband of Daisy May COBB nee DUBBELDAN, 489 Macauley Road, Kensington, Vic.

At the time of enlistment, Charles recorded his age at 28 years, single, occupation being a postman and residing at his parents home at (now) 95 West Fyans Street Newtown. Charles was initially appointed to the Army Medical Corps Reinforcements.

Charles served in Victoria for 12 months after enlisting, prior to embarking for overseas service on 23 November 1916 on HMAT Hororata.  Upon arrival at Plymouth England on 29 January 1917, Charles was admitted to Devonport Military Hospital with illness and remained hospitalised till 7 March when he commenced training at Southampton.  

On 24 June 1917, Charles finally headed overseas to France and joined 10th Field Ambulance on 16 August.  Regretfully, Charles reported sick on 15 October and soon afterwards on 26 October 1917, was returned to England suffering from bronchitis.  In August that same year, Charles was notified of the death of his mother and his sister, Annie Cobb wrote to Army Base Records requesting that the portion of Charles’ pay previously paid to his mother now be allotted to her.

Still unwell, Charles embarked from England for Australia on 10 March 1918, reaching Melbourne on 10 May 1918 and later was discharged as medically unfit on 14 June 1918.

Charles later married to Daisy May Dubbeldan and resided at 489 Macauley Road Kensington Victoria. Charles re-enlisted for WW2 on 2 July 1942, aged 54 years, stating his occupation as a clerk.  Charles served until 1950 with Headquarters Southern Command, rising to the rank of Sergeant.

Charles passed away from illness on 4 November 1951, aged 64 years.
