Pilot Officer John Alexander Mollison (Service No:257518) served in the RAAF from 30 December 1942 to 19 July 1944 and was attached to No 1 W ATC Melbourne when he resigned his Commission. He served in WWI as a Gunner (Service No:38992) - three of his older siblings - Arthur, David and George - also served in WWI.
John was born in Katamatite, Victoria in 1898, fifth of six children of John Mollison (b1842 in Sydney, NSW) and his second wife Eleanor Medwick (b1862 in Kilmore, Victoria). John (a Widower) was a Boardinghouse Keeper) in 1887 when he and Eleanor married in Euroa, and settled in Numurkah where they raised their family and John worked as a Labourer. In 1896 John received a Land Grant under the Katamatite Village Settlement Scheme, and the family lived there until his death in 1903. The land grant was transferred to Eleanor, but by 1904 she had to relinquish the property and moved to Melbourne - the children were separated - John grew up in Sale.
John completed his teaching qualifications at Melbourne University, and follwoing his return from WWI, taught in Bendigo, Nathalia and Melbourne. In 1925 in Melbourne he married Eileen Susan Andrew (b1898 in Dunolly, Victoria) - Eileen was working in Melbourne as a Clerk. John and Eileen lived in Mildura, Shepparton and Lalor where John taught High Scool, before settling in Melbourne. John died in 1977 and Eileen in 1979.
