William Ellson was 35 when he enlisted. He was married to a woman named Mrs Beatrice Annie Ellson. They had a house at 9 Sheffield Street, Coburg, Victoria.

His occupation was a Fitter and Turner. He enlisted on the 22nd of October 1917. His rank when he enlisted was 2nd Air Mechanic. He was in the unit Australian Flying Corps No 1 Special Draft.

He enlisted on the Nominal Roll 18th of October 1917. His rank from the Nominal Roll was Private and his Unit was the 2nd Squadron Australian Flying Corps.
