He served as a Sergeant with the Australian Army Service Corps and the 4th Australian Division Headquarters during the First World War. During the Second World War he served as a Private with the 20th Australian Supply Depot Australian Army Service Corps from 26th June 1940 to 10th November 1943, regimental number V85313.
