Biography contributed by Karan CAMPBELL-DAVIS

George Arthur DUFF was one of 11 children born to Thomas and Emily (née SHEPHERD) DUFF, in Nowra (Shoalhaven), NSW, Australia.

Prior to enlistment with the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (ANMEF), George served as a CMF Private, number 688, in Number 2 District Guard, Sydney, from 10 September 1917 until his enlistment for ANMEF in February 1918.  He had previously unsuccessfully applied to join the AIF.

In 1919, George Arthur DUFF married Gladys Millicent RUNNACLES.  They had 2 children, Norma Deslys and Hunter George, before they divorced in 1932.

George served in the Citizen Military Forces for a period of 5 months at the Army School of Signals (Liverpool) during WW2, before being discharged on 7 June 1941, to allow him to return to his civilian occupation as a motor driver.  He died two months later.

*NB - There were 2 men with this same name serving in WW2.  It appears that some people have confused the two men in family trees on Ancestry.  This information has been compiled after verification with original sources at the National Archives of Australia, Ryerson Index and NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages.
