Private Frederick James Massey (Service No:2691) enlisted in the AIF on 29 June 1916 and served with 57th Infantry Battalion in France, where he was WiA on two occasions in 1918. Private Massey embarked from Melbourne for Plymouth on 2 October 1916 on board HMAT A71 Nestor, and embarked from England for the RTA on 21 July 1919 on board HT Bakara. Private Massey was attached to 57th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 11 November 1919.

Born in 1883 in Corowa NSW, Fred was the second of nine children of William Hands Massey (b1857 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Charlotte Eastwick (b1859 in Sydney, NSW). William (a Farmer) and Charlotte married in 1880 in Wahgunyah, Victoria (across the river from Corowa, NSW) and settled in Corowa where they  raised their family and William was a Farmer.

Fred was a Farmer in Corowa in 1910 when he married Sarah Jane Ruth Leighton (b1887 in Corowa, NSW). Fred and Sarah were in Melbourne, Victoria in 1916 when Fred enlisted in the AIF. Sarah died in 1926, and Fred remarried in 1932 to Blanche Cutter (nee Gill; b1889 in Cornwall, England). Fred and Blanche settled in Melbourne where Fred worked as a Labourer. Fred died in 1959 and Blanche in 1969.
