Corporal John James Gooding (Service No:12815) enlisted as an Aircraftman I at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne on 31 January 1941 - mustered as Trainee Mechanic. In 1941 ACI Gooding was attached to No 1 Recruit Depot (RD) Laverton, No 4 School of Technical Training (STT) Adelaide, No 1 Engineering School (ES) Ascot Vale and Armament School Point Cook. Promoted in 1942 and remustered as Fitter, Leading Aircraftman Gooding was attached to RAAF Nowra, the only RAAF base providing torpedo training. LAC Gooding served at Nowra through 1943 with No 2 Torpedo Unit and then with 55 Operational Base Unit (OBU) Birdum NT. Corporal Gooding was attached to Air Gunnery School West Sale at Discharge on 19 December 1945.
John was born Dimboola, Victoria in 1915, second of six children of James Gooding (b1879 in Tea Tree Gully, South Australia) and Laura Agnes Williams (b1888 in Horsham, Victoria). James (a Farmer) and Laura married in 1912 in Dimboola, Victoria - they lived in Dimboola and Antwerp via Dimboola where they raised their family and James was a Farmer.
John was a Labourer in 1937 in Dimboola when he married Mona Clarice Parker (b1917 in Jeparit, Victoria). John and Mona settled in Dimboola where they raied their family and John worked as a Labourer before enlisting in the RAAF. Following his Discharge, John and Mona lived in Barramunga and Birregurra where John was a Farmer. They later moved to Waaia where John was a Dairy Farmer until his death in 1965. Mona died in 1991.
