Sergeant Gladys Joyce Lamb (Service No:90292) served with the RAAF from 28 November 1941 to 12 September 1945. Enlisting at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne as an Aircraftwoman I (mustered as Clerk), Sergeant Lamb was attached to Air Force HQ at Discharge on 12 September 1945. Sibling Jean (Wr/2084) served in the Navy.
Gladys was second of three children of Leslie (Les/Simmo) William Simpkin (b1894 in Lexton, Victoria) and Evelyn Annie Emily Baulch (b1900 in Lexton, Victoria). Les served in WWI (Sergeant; Service No:899) and was a Farmer in Lexton when he and Evelyn married in Ballarat in 1920. Les and Evelyn lived in Lexton where Les was a Farmer before moving to Healesville in the mid 1920s where Les worked as Municipal Clerk. The family then lived in Cobden, Cohuna and Rokewood where Les was Shire Secretary. Les also served in WWII (Lieutenant; Service No:V76978).
Gladys worked as a Typist and Stenographer, and was a Solicitor's Clerk when she enlisted in the RAAF in 1941. In 1944 in Geelong, Gladys married Jack Dolphin Lamb (b1920 in Geelong, Victoria) - Jack was a Lieutenant with Commando Squadron (Service No:VX5116). Following Discharge, Gladys and Jack lived in Geelong where Jack was a Grocer and Foreman before moving to Melbourne in the early 1960s. By 1980 the couple had settled at Highton in Geelong where Jack was a Director. Jack died in 2003 and Gladys in 2005.
