Col. Orames Visits Adelaide
Col. B. Orames, who was recently appointed chief secretary of the southern territory of the Salvation Army in Australia by Gen. Booth, spent a few days in Adelaide inspecting the activities of the Army, and returned to Melbourne. The position of chief secretary requires an officer with keen executive ability, and in Col. Orames the Army has one with these qualifications, in addition to which he is a fluent and forceful speaker. His three predecessors came from Britain. Col. Orames was born in Victoria. He has been associated with the Army since 1892. At that time he was a miner working on the goldfields in Western Australia. After several years he was appnointed to the Melbourne headquarters staff as an officer, and was engaged largely in clerical work. From 1908 to 1910 the colonel was officer in charge of operations in the north island of New Zealand, foIlowing which he was sub-editor of "The War Cry" for four years. Col. Oramnes attended an important Army conference in London in 1914, and on his return to Australia he joined the Australian Imperial Forces as a chaplain in the fifth division. After three years on active serviice in Egypt and France he was appointed divisional commander at Armidale, New South Wales. Following two years in that capacity he was appointed field secretary for the New South Wales headquarters. He held that office for six and a half years until he was recently elevated to his present post.
