Aircraftwoman Nita Love Kelly (Service No:103867) served in the RAAF (mustered as a Telephone Operator) from 12 May 1943 to 19 February 1946. Aircraftwoman Kelly was attached to HQ Pearce at Discharge.
Born in 1921 in Blackwood WA, Nita was seventh of twleve children of Oswin (Oss) John Kelly (b1893 in Warragul, Victoria) and Amy (Nita) Juanita Lawrence (b1892 in Bunbury, WA). Oss was in Donnybrook WA with his parents and siblings by 1898, and was a Labourer in Greenbushes in 1910 when he and Nita Snr married. Oss and Nita lived in Greenbushes, Manjimup, Jardee, and Blackwood where Oss worked as a Teamster for State Mills. The family settled in Pemberton in the mid 1920s, where Oss worked as a Teamster and a Fitter's Assistant. Oss was killed in an accident in the Pemberton bush in 1934. Nita Snr died in 1957.
Prior to her enlistment, Nita worked in Pemberton as a Telephonist. In 1949 in Blackwood, WA Nita married Gerald Kingsley Denny (b1924 in Kelmscott, Canning, WA) - Gerald served in the RAAF (Leading Aircraftman; Service No:436441) in WWII. Nita and Gerald lived in Pemberton, Kulin and Perth where Gerald was a Bank Officer. The couple retired to Busselton where Gerald died in 1985 and Nita in 2012.
