Sergeant Freda Gwendoline Huxley (Service No:90514) enlisted in the WAAAF at No 1 Recruiting Melbourne on 23 December 1941 as an Aircraftwoman I - mustered as Clerk General, and was promoted to Sergeant on 1 December 1942. Sergeant Huxley was attached to RAAF Station Laverton Vic at Discharge on 20 February 1947.

Freda was born at Point Cook, Victoria in 1920, eldest of three children of Frederick (Fred) George Huxley MC (b1892 at Currie, King Island, Tasmania) and Lily Maud Emily Webb (b1888 at Emu Bay, Tasmania). Fred had served in WWI with the AIF and Australian Flying Corps (Service No:1119) and was a Shopkeeper in Currie in 1918 when he and Lily married. Fred and Lily lived on King Island, where Fred was a Shop Assistant and Dairy Farmer before moving to Longreach, QLD in 1922 as Chief Pilot for QANTAS. By 1923 the family had moved to Victoria, where Fred was employed as Aviation Officer by the Shell Coy, moving to Tasmania and finally Adelaide, South Australia with the Shell Coy. Fred also served in WWII (Wing Commander; Service No:280363).

Freda worked in Melbourne as a Switchboard Operator and Invoice Clerk before enlisting in the WAAAF, and following her Discharge, in 1947 in Adelaide, South Australia married Harold Roy Harrod (b1924 in Magill, South Australia) - Harold was serving in the RAAF (Service No:4427). Freda lived in Adelaide with the children during the years Harold saw overseas service post war with the RAAF (UK, Korea, Darwin NT) and settled in Melbourne, Victoria in the 1960s. Following his Discharge in 1976, Freda and Harold lived in Melbourne, where Harold was appointed to a commission in the RAAF Reserves. Freda died in 1993 and Harold in 2009.
