Died on this date - 5th August.....Private Richard Houghton was born in Co. Durham, England in 1893.

He came to Australia when he was 20 years old & enlisted as a 22 year old, Blacksmith from Wollongong, NSW on 28th August, 1915.


Private Richard Houghton. Service number 2340, disembarked a Marseilles, France from Egypt on 23rd June, 1916.

He was reported Missing on 19th July, 1916 then reported wounded in action on 20th July, 1916.


Private Richard Houghton died at 4.10 pm on 5th August, 1916 at Bevan Hospital, Sandgate, England from Wounds received in action in France - Compound Fracture of right humerus.

He was buried in Hetton Cemetery, Hetton, Tyne & Wear, England.
