Attestation paper has his being born in Melbourne but his birth was registered in NSW as being in the Bombala area. Roll of Honour Circular has his birth place as Delegate, NSW which is 36 miles from Bombala Allan moving to Melbourne at the age of 12 months

Son of George Dale and Alice A. Dale nee Box of 'Airlie', 117 Buckley Street, Essendon, Victoria.  Formerly of Newport, Victoria and Delegate, NSW. Brother of Elsie Dale, George Dale and Ethel Dale
