30 Jun 1918: | Honoured Military Medal, On the night of 30 th June 1918 , near Merris, Dvr Jacobs was placed in charge of 3 pack animals carrying rations to the front line. When nearing the forward positions the pack mules came under heavy artillery fire, two being killed and their drivers wounded. Dvr Jacobs in spite of continual artillery fire extricated the wounded men from beneath their dead horses and helped them to safety, returning to his mules he succeeded at great personal risk in taking the three loads of rations to the company in the front lines, making three trips under very trying circumstances. | |
