DIGGER'S DEATH
Struck by Car
THREE YEARS WORKLESS
Within a hundred yards of his home in Grantham street, Auburn, Thomas Grainger, aged 43, was knocked down by a car last week and fatally injured. Mr. Grainger, who had been out of work for three years, began hawking fruit a few weeks ago. He was returning home after a hard day's work, and was standing near his horse and cart when the accident occurred. The Parramatta-Auburn Ambulance took the injured man to the Auburn District Hospital, where he was admitted suffering from internal injuries and shock. He died on Thursday. Mr. Grainger, who was a returned soldier, leaves a widow and eight children. The funeral on Saturday afternoon was largely largely attended. The Returned Soldiers' League, the Imperial ex-Service Assocation, ladies' auxiliary of the R.S.L., A.LP. and the U.W.M. were all well represented. The body was laid to rest in the Methodist; cemetery, Rookwood, Rev. F. R. Swynny conducting the service at the graveside.
