Alexander served in World War 1 (as Eric Charles Alexander) and was honorary auditor for the local branch of the RSS&ILA in the 1930s. It would seem he lowered his age to enlist in World War 2. He became a prisoner of war at Changi in February 1942 shortly after arriving at Singapore with the 2/29 Battalion. Alexander returned to Australia in October 1945. After the war he was President of the City sub-branch of the RSS&ILA (now the RSL). He died on 30 December 1980 at Royal Canberra Hospital.
