Private George Albert Edwin Spicer (Service No:1955) enlisted in the AIF on 4 March 1916 and embarked with 39th Infantry Battalion from Melbourne on 16 August 1916 on board RMS Orontes. Private Spicer served with 39th Infantry Battalion in France where he was Recommended for Mention in Despatches on 24 January 1919 and Recommended for the Military Medal 'For consistent good work as signaller and devotion to duty. An original member of (39th) Battalion and has been with same since its arrival in France. He has at various times mended breaks in the line under heavy enemy shell fire. His consistent good work and utter disregard for danger had a splendid effect at all times upon the signallers of his Company' (AWM). Private Spicer embarked from England for the RTA on 1 July 1919 on board HT Frankfurt and was attached to Australian Army Postal Corps at Discharge on 4 October 1919. 

Private Spicer (Service No:V372246) served with the ACMF 22nd Battalion VDC from 27 March 1942 to 18 January 1943.

Born in 1897 in Raglan Victoria, Bertie was sixth of seven children of Arthur Spicer (b1864 in Buninyong, Victoria) and Susannah Daphne Pitcher (b1858 in Amhurst, Victoria). Arthur (a Labourer) and Susannah married in 1887 in Buninyong and lived in Raglan where Arthur worked as a Labourer.

Bertie worked as a Labourer in Raglan and in 1920 in Melbourne he married his first wife Roma Estelle Jaggar (b1888 in Brisbane, QLD). Bertie and Roma lived in Raglan and Ararat where Bertie worked as a Labourer and Carter. Following Roma's death in 1947, Bertie remarried in Ballarat in 1951 to Aileen Mary Leitch (nee Browne; b1910 at Fryer's Creek, Victoria). Bertie and Aileen settled in Ballarat where Bertie joined the Civil Service and worked as Farm Manager at the Mental Hospital. Bertie died in 1976 and Aileen in 2011.
