Duncan McArthur was the son of William and Isabella McArthur, of Plewlands, Duffus, Elgin, Scotland. He had only arrived in Australia from Scotland during 1915 and was working on a farm at Trangie when he enlisted. Duncan was severely wounded at Bullecourt on the 9 April 1917 and he died the next day in a hospital in Rouen.
Duncan’s sister in Scotland filled out his roll of honour circular and she stated ‘His elder brother William was wounded and taken prisoner in March 1918, and died in Germany on 15 May 1918. His regiment was the Seaforth Highlanders, belonging to Morayshire.’ 204598 Private William McArthur is buried in the Berlin South-Western Cemetery.
