Andrew Jackson’s real identity!
Andrew Arthur Meagher was born in Waratah Tasmania on 21 August 1905, RGD33/4/16 no. 1095 page 237 - Waratah. My grandmother’s younger brother. She and her sisters visited him a few times over the years but couldn’t find out why he changed his name to Jackson, they never mentioned to me why he claimed to be born in the USA! He married Doris Welton in Auburn NSW in 1932.
I have discovered that he was working in New Zealand with his brother Frank and fathered a daughter but defaulted maintenance and warrants were out for his arrest in 1930. He disappeared. Police Gazettes, New Zealand, 1878-45, page 343, 1930.
He died in 1971 and was buried under the name Jackson despite efforts of his sisters to have it as Meagher. Obviously his wife had the last say. There were no living children of the marriage. His only descendent are those from his daughter in NZ, discovered by DNA and his name on the birth record.
