World War 1 Service

23 May 1917: Enlisted Australian Army Nursing Service (WW1), AANS, Australian Army Nursing Service (WW1)
12 Jun 1917: Embarked Australian Army Nursing Service (WW1), Staff Nurse, Australian Army Nursing Service (WW1), Embarked on RMS Mooltan from Melbourne on 12th June 1917. The RMS Mooltan had sailed from Sydney on 10th June and following the stopover in Melbourne also called at Adelaide on 14th June 1917 and Fremantle on 18th June 1917 to take on other medical personal.
Nurse Gregson and other nurses who were bound for Salonika, Greece disembarked at Suez on 19th July 1917. Embarked for Salonika on the Gordon from Port Said on 25th July 1917.
The RMS Mooltan sailed for India with more than 300 nurses on board. Attacked by German submarine UC27 on 26 Jul 1917 near the entry to the Suez Canal it was sunk, although all nurses aboard were saved by the two escorting Japanese destroyers, the Kusonoki and the Ume. Two of the crew however, lost their lives.

  • 11th November 1917 - posted to 42nd General Hospital
  • 14th November 1917 - admitted to Sisters Convalescent Camp with Debility
  • 21st November 1917 - discharged from hospital and posted to 52nd General Hospital
  • 11th January 1918 - admitted to Red Cross Convalescent Home
  • 25th January 1918 - rejoined 52nd General Hospital
  • 24th June 1918 - admitted to Sisters Convalescent Camp
  • 8th July 1918 - rejoined 52nd General Hospital
  • 22nd October 1918 - admitted to 43rd General Hospital with undiagnosed illness
  • 2nd November 1918 transferred to Sisters Convalescent Camp with influenza
  • 8th November - rejoined 52nd General Hospital
  • 4th February 1919 - rank reverts back to Staff Nurse
  • Embarked for England on leave
  • 15th February 1919 - disembarked at Southampton and reported to A.I.F. Headquarters London
  • 18th March 1919 - granted leave till 17th May 1919
  • 29th April 1919 - previous leave cancelled and Non Military Employment Leave granted until 29th July 1919 to attend a course in Cooking and Domestic Economy at the Polytechnic School, Battersea
  • 12 Jul 1919: Promoted Australian Army Nursing Service (WW1), Sister, Australian Army Nursing Service (WW1), Had been a Temporary Sister from 1st September 1917 to 3rd February 1919

  • 29th July 1919 - re-transferred to AANS and marched out to Deputy Assistant Adjutant General
  • 1st August 1919 - posted to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital
  • 1 Nov 1919: Embarked Australian Army Nursing Service (WW1), Sister, Australian Army Nursing Service (WW1), Embarked for return to Australia on HMAT 'A71' Nestor on 1st November 1919, disembarking Melbourne on 15th December 1919.

    Florence was the daughter of Rev John Gregson & Fanny Ann Gregson (nee Hardinge). Her nephew was William Donald Gregson, the son of her eldest brother William Hardinge Gregson.
